California signing requirements and mobile fees

  • The signer must appear in person with acceptable California ID.
  • Notary fees: up to $15 per acknowledged signature or per person for a jurat. Travel is quoted separately before booking.
  • Skilled nursing facility patients: an advance directive needs a patient advocate or ombudsman witness.
Full requirements and official sources
  • The signer must appear in person for the service offered here. California identification rules are specific: some listed ID documents may qualify when current or issued within five years. Tell us what ID is available; the notary checks the permitted document and any statutory conditions.
  • For ordinary acknowledgments, California's statutory maximum is $15 per signature. An oath or affirmation with a jurat is up to $15 per person. Statutory exemptions may apply. These are not all-in mobile visit prices: travel and any agreed additional services are quoted separately before booking.
  • Bring the final, complete document and follow the notarial act's signing instructions. A jurat requires signing in the notary's presence; an acknowledgment can concern an existing signature. The document provider should identify the required act; we do not choose it for you.
  • A health care directive has document-specific signing rules. For a patient in a skilled nursing facility, California Probate Code 4675 requires a designated patient advocate or ombudsman to witness an advance directive, including when it is notarized. Ordinary paid witnesses do not replace that requirement. Arrange this with the facility before the appointment.

Documents for use outside the United States

For California documents used abroad, the issuing authority is the California Secretary of State, not the City of San Diego. Its routine in-person offices are Sacramento and Los Angeles; temporary pop-up events may change. Ask us about mail-in document handling and check the state's current guidance rather than assuming a permanent San Diego apostille counter.
